Currently I serve as a member of the local PTA unit, sit on the Duluth Citywide PTSA Council, serve as the Outreach Commissioner for the Minnesota State PTA and I am a Training Capacity, Building Initiative Trainer for the National PTA. My community connections include being the Vice President of the Lakeside-Lester Park Community Club, a Hospice volunteer, and media spokesperson for The Twin Ports Miracle League. In addition I assist with planning and execution of fundraisers for the Duluth Playhouse.
This diversity allows me to meet a wide spectrum of people with whom I can promote the importance of the home-school-community connection. There are also opportunities for two or more of these organizations to have joint functions or fundraisers. These partnerships allow for effective crossover promotion, bringing fresh faces to events while promoting and sharing ideas on individual causes.
Highlights of my time with the PTA include winning a Georgia state PTA Grant for an interdisciplinary environmental grocery store that I designed and help build; having the wildlife habitat I helped design and build certified by the World Wildlife Federation; chairing numerous fundraisers; conducting seminars as a national TCBI Trainer; sitting on local, city and state PTA Boards and attending two national conventions. What gives me the greatest pleasure, though, is reading in the classroom. |
